Nokia charges a Lumia 925 within seconds – using lightning!

Nokia has been working on wireless charging technology for quite some time. Well, it has taken the whole gambit one step further by using thousands of volts of free electricity to charge the Lumia 925 smartphone – it has teamed up with the University of Southampton to do so.

Here’s what Neil Palmer, Scientist, University of Southampton, says,”We were excited by this challenge presented to us by Nokia. Using an alternating current, driven by a transformer, over 200,000 volts was sent across a 300mm gap – giving heat and light similar to that of a lightning bolt. The signal was then stepped into a second controlling transformer, allowing us to charge the phone.”

Lightning is quite a lot of free electricity, but it hasn’t been put to such use until now, because it is simply very tough and dangerous to harness. But, the team, along with Nokia has actually successfully used electricity to charge a Nokia Lumia 925.

The end result was, that Nokia was able to charge the handset within seconds – the amazing thing was that the Nokia 925 was actually able to utilize the power. Nokia has always done wonders in smartphone innovation.
